    I have opened a standard stereo bus from my bus track list but it isn't showing up in the session or mix window. Where is it exactly and how do I open it, as I'm wanting to add effect's on it.

    • @owens311
      @owens311 2 роки тому

      you have to create a new Aux track from the new track window. Then assign the input of that aux track to the Bus number you want. That allows you to use the aux track as your Bus sub mix fader, which will allow you to then add plugins and effects.

    How about the output ? Does it double the signal output ? Guitar bus output to master volume, and reverb track output to master volume too. I'm still confusing this situations bro

    • @owens311
      @owens311 3 роки тому

      Hello, you are not doubling the volume output when you route to a master fader. The master fader is just a summing point so you can take multiple tracks and merge them together to have a single fader to control the overall volume. And it also allows you to place eq or compression over the entire mix. In mixing software, simply routing audio from one track to another does not double the audio level. In order to double the volume you would need to raise the fader level. You can test this for yourself by looking at the meter levels after you route a single audio track to a aux track. The meters are the same.

    Thanks for this heloful vid! Whats the advantage of the aux send method vs adding reverb as an insert on the bus?

    • @owens311
      @owens311 4 роки тому

      The difference is how you intend to use the reverb. For example: if you’ve created a bus for all your drum tracks and just want to apply a reverb for the drums only. Then you can certainly pout the reverb as an insert on the bus and adjust the amount using the wet/dry slider in the plugin. But if you intend to use that reverb for other instruments, then using an aux send is the best way so you can send other things to it. In a more advanced mix using aux sends also allows you to chain effects together and get more control. So you can send a short delay, into a long delay, and into a reverb to build a custom effect. And using aux sends to chain them together gives you more control in terms of gain and EQing so the final effect isn’t muddy.

    I am trying to learn the theory of Mixing and new to Pro Tools. Can you explain to me what is the difference between using an Aux Input track and an Audio Track as a bus? My teacher told me to use Audio tracks to accomplish what you explained so very well. Just wondering what makes the difference -- Pro/Cons ...etc.

    • @owens311
      @owens311 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. audio tracks can be used in a similar way as an aux track, but the intent is a bit different. If you wanted to record (print) the tracks feeding the bus then you can use an audio track to record them down. For example, this allows you to take 6 drum tracks and record them down to a single stereo track. Then you can make the 6 drum tracks Inactive to free up processing. So you're creating what's called a bus stem of the drums. In order to use the audio tracks as a passive bus like I show in the video, you need to active input monitoring on the audio track. Otherwise you won't hear what's coming through when you hit Play. Aux tracks are passive tracks that do not contain any "audio" information. It's a through point that allows you to sum individual tracks together and apply group processing. I like to use Aux tracks for this reason. Then if I feel that I want to Print that Aux track to and audio track. I can just send that Aux output to the input of an audio track and record.

    • @owens311
      @owens311 4 роки тому

      using aux tracks is more closely aligned with how mixing on analog/digital consoles work. So the workflow is consistent and can be transferred easily between other DAWs or consoles. Consoles will use Aux sends and returns for effects. But some analog consoles don't have aux tracks for bussing. So you have to use open audio channels in that case. So both methods can work to achieve the same result. Just depends on your personal preference and what's your intended use/outcome for the aux sends/bussing
